Attitude on Cigarette Smoking Among College Students

This study aimed to determine the logistic regression model and association of age, gender, types of personality, smoking status, and sorority/fraternity affiliation on the attitude on cigarette smoking among the students of the College of Arts and Sciences, West Visayas State University, Iloilo City, during the second semester of the school year 2006-2007. Simple random sampling was used in selecting the 120 samples. Percentage, frequency count, Chi-Square Test, and logistic regression model were employed.

Logistic Regression Model for the Significant Associations of the Variables

The Logistic Regression Model determined by the significantly associated variables, specifically age, gender, types of personality, smoking status, and fraternity/sorority affiliation were predictor variables and attitude on cigarette smoking was the dependent variable.

Results showed that attitude on smoking is not associated with age, gender, and types of personality, but it is associated with sorority/fraternity affiliation and smoking habits. Smoking habit and fraternity/sorority affiliation played an important role on the attitude of smoking but attitude towards smoking was still dependent to age, gender, types of personality and other factors that might influence the attitude on smoking. Respondents were dominantly dependent from cigarette smoking abused.
